It has been announced that the sell-out show Funny Girl which stars Sheridan Smith, will be transferring to the West End, opening at the Savoy Theatre for a strictly limited 12 week run from 9 April 2016.The transfer will follow a run at the Menier Chocolate Factory where the show broke the theatre's box office records by becoming the fastest-selling show in their history. The Menier revival opens in December.Written by Jule Styne and Bob Merrill, the musical is based on the life and career of Broadway star Fanny Brice, and her relationship with Nick Arnstein. It features songs including "People", "Don't Rain on My Parade" and "I'm the Greatest Star".David Babani, artistic director of Menier Chocolate Factory, said today, "We've been overwhelmed by the enthusiasm for Funny Girl – the show broke Menier box office records when it sold out its entire run in just 90 minutes. We felt it was very important to respond to demand so we're delighted...to share it with as wide an audience as possible."
